How it will work
The proposed format for when The Amazing Race opens. Details can change before launch.

Lock at the starting line
Picks lock when the premiere starts airing. After that, no swaps.
Score every Pit Stop
Your teams earn points for staying in, winning legs and finishing top three, plus a few for a Fast Forward or U-Turn. Penalties and elimination cost points.
Race to the finish
Reaching the final leg is worth +8, and winning the race +20 more. The highest total in your party wins.

Rules
The proposed rulebook for when The Amazing Race opens.
Your picks
Pick exactly two teams. Picks aren't exclusive, so friends can pick the same teams. Once confirmed, your picks can't be changed.
Pick deadline
Picks lock when the premiere starts airing on CBS, Eastern time. Every leg counts, including Leg 1. Picks are revealed to your party at the lock.
Pit Stop placement
Each leg, a team gets +2 for staying in, +6 for finishing first, or +3 for second or third. Placement is the official check-in position after any penalties.
Eliminations
The team eliminated at a Pit Stop gets -8. On a non-elimination leg, the last team still gets +2 for staying in, and -4 for finishing last.
Race tools
A Fast Forward is +4. An extra Express Pass you earned is +3, and one that expires or is still held at elimination is -3. Playing a U-Turn or Yield is +2, being hit by one -2. U-Turns decided by a team vote give no +2.
Penalties
Each time penalty is -2. Quitting a task and taking the penalty is -4.
The final leg
Teams on the final leg get +8, the runner-up +6 more and the winner +20 more. The final leg doesn't award regular leg points.
Voluntary exits and removals
A team that quits the race or is removed for conduct gets -10. A withdrawal for a medical reason or stated emergency is 0.
Ties
Tied players are ordered by most leg wins among their teams, then by the best final placing of either team. If they're still tied, they share the rank.
Late joiners
A party started after the premiere sets its own deadline. Members pick from teams still racing, and only legs after that deadline count.
Corrections
Results follow the placement announced in the episode, then the CBS synopsis, then a reputable recap. A placement not shown on screen may be marked pending until confirmed. Corrections are logged and recalculate every party. Results are final 7 days after publishing.
Host powers
Hosts can fix a member's picks with a logged reason (for example, a team withdrew before the race began) and edit point values until the party starts. Nobody can change scoring after that.
