What Pick the Cast stores, why, and what you can do about it.
Pick the Cast is a free fantasy game for reality TV fans. It keeps only what it needs to run the game, and it doesn’t sell or share your information with advertisers.
What we store
- Your email address, display name and, if you add one, a profile photo.
- A password if you set one, stored only as a one-way hash. If you use Google sign-in, your Google account ID and profile picture link.
- That you confirmed you’re 13 or older. We don’t keep your birth date.
- The parties you’re in, your picks, your poll and prediction votes, the shows you follow, and your notifications.
- If you tap “Notify me”, your email address and which show (or the shop) it was for. You don’t need an account for that.
- Security and operations records: sign-in tokens, rate-limit counters, an audit log of changes to scoring and parties, and a log of poll votes (with a one-way hash of your network address, not the address itself).
- Usage counts we record ourselves, such as when someone starts a party or joins a waitlist, and when you were last signed in.
How it’s used
To run the game: signing you in, showing your parties and standings, counting votes, sending the emails you’ve chosen, and understanding which shows people want next. Polls and predictions show only totals; nobody sees how you voted.
Private parties are seen only by their members. If you join a public party, its page shows your display name and standing to anyone, and your picks once its deadline passes. You choose that when you join; leaving the party takes you off its standings.
Who else handles it
Our web host stores the site and its database. Emails go out through our email provider. If you use Google sign-in, Google handles that sign-in. None of them may use your information for their own purposes.
We use Google Analytics to see how people find and use the site: pages visited, the device and browser, and a rough location. It sets cookies in your browser. Sign-in, invite and reset links are trimmed before anything is sent, so Google never sees them, and there are no advertising scripts.
Some show pages have an official trailer from YouTube. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play; from then on, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies to that video. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode.
You can turn off results emails, deadline reminders and party updates on your account page. Sign-in and security emails are always sent. A “Notify me” signup gets one email when that show opens; every one of those emails has an unsubscribe link.
Age
Pick the Cast is for people 13 and older. If we learn an account belongs to someone younger, we remove it.
Your choices
You can change your details or delete your account from your account page. Deleting removes your name, email, photo, follows and waitlist signups; your past picks stay in your parties’ history as “Former player” so standings stay right for everyone else. For anything else, contact us through the site’s owner.
Changes
If we change how we use information, we’ll update this page before the change applies, and say so in the app.
